The initial portion of the trip starts along the Dee River which empties out into an estuary and bay. Liverpool is located on the far other side of the bay. The trek today has been as straight as an arrow along the river. I walked from downtown Chester (England) to Queensferry (Wales). I passed a giant Airbus facility across the river. There are lots of cyclists, very few walkers and no long distance trekkers. Queensferry is economically depressed.
