Apr 9: Hauntingly beautiful valley

As seen from the hike up to the waterfall "Gargantua ... ",Tilcara is by far the jewel of the trip. It is what I imagine Santa Fe, New Mexico was like 150 years ago. There are mostly indigenous folks with a small but decent size tourism industry. It is centered in the small town of Tilcara, in the midst of a spectacular massive valley, earthen mineral colored mountains.

I joked some gringo will put a large resort and golf course here, and the place will be ruined.
