This hike starts in the parking lot of a ski resort. It winds around into and up through a valley. The valley eventually becomes a basin surrounded by rock spires for a cathedral like feel. Most people backpack up to the refuge there, the Frey. The refuge has beds and a complete menu. Plus there are campsites nearby. I did the hike in 5 hours. I notice the hiking routes are expressed in hours walking, conservative numbers. This hike is suppose to take 7 or 8 hours.
